RETROGRAD
Retrograd is Afenginn’s debut album and was released on October 5th 2004 on TUTL Records. The album kicked off Afenginn’s career and received a Danish Music Award for “Best World Album” in 2005. Retrograd is an album with a playing time of 60 minutes of music generously arranged with strings and brass and accordion and this and that. Here’s where you’ll find the Elk Suite about the Swedish elk that swam to Denmark, the all time live favourite Tattar Humppa, the odd meter craze of Clapdance, the meditative Näcken and many other. A proud debut!
What others said:
"Afenginn’s debut album is an intoxicating experience with music of a very high intensity , which all the time finds new corners. It’s pure musical energy, completely at the tip of the toes. And mind you, it is virtuously exercised energy." Helge Knudsen, Dagbladet Arbejderen.
"You’ve got to be a real stiff neck not to be caught by Afenginn’s joy of playing" Bernhard Lewkowitz, Kristeligt Dagblad.
"Maybe the best Balkan rockers in the North! Afenginn has no problem in blending Nordic melancoly from violin and accordion with brutally dancable orgies of Balkan blowers and it is first and foremost here that their force is to be found. In the genre there are only a few who are at the same level as Afenginn.” Alex Regnér, www.musiklandet.nu
"Right now, one of the country’s most interesting folk music orchestras of all is Afenginn who is playing an irresistible mix of rock, punk, ska and traditional folk music. It is hyper energetic, virtuos, unrestrained, rattling, original and nothing less than screamingly amusing." Musikeren, february 2005
